Everything You Need to Forget About the Music Industry (via MusicThinkTank.com)

Image

Rick Goetz, of MusicThinkTank and MusicianCoaching, writes a truly inspired and informative article that I had to share with my fellow Wiz Kids!  In the article, he talks about the misconception about what it truly takes to be successful (perpetuated by media like “Behind The Music.”  In short, it takes grit (patience, persistence), solid business knowledge, marketing your personal brand, setting goals, building a community, and networking

So Without Further ado here is a link Mr. Goetz’s article.

Raphael Saadiq on Pensado’s Place

For those of you who have been sleeping under a rock or are just not familiar with Pensado’s Place, get familiar!… And let me give you a quick update.

Pensado’s Place is the brainchild of platinum mixing engineer Dave Pensado and his manager, Herb Trawick. Dave has mixed chart-toppers for some of the biggest names in the music business, from The Black Eyed Peas to Justin Timberlake. The show features the Grammy award winning mix engineer discussing various facets of sound art production with noted industry figures. The show has been on for almost two years and has over 90 episodes. In the 94th episode, Mr. Pensado interviews singer/songwriter/producer Raphael Saadiq. Even if you are not a recording engineer you will still find tons of valuable info in this documentary. So without further ado, sit back, enjoy and learn!
(Skip to about the 15:00 for the start of the interview)

Drumma Boy Interview

Video

In many ways, this interview is where the idea of Music Biz Wiz Kids began. Several years ago,I had the fortunate opportunity of meeting Drumma Boy’s publicist and with the help of my close ally, Alex White, and videographer/editor Alex Wiltz- created this interview. The interview was released on my old blog rockwellbeats.worpdress.com. Drumma Boy drums some knowledge on his early days.Anticipate more interviews like this to come in the future.

You Have No Competition

I met Mike Falzone and had the privilege of playing along side of him when we formed a very short lived band backing my good friend and amazing artist Johnny Crome. For those of you unfamiliar, Mike Falzone is a comedian, vlogger, musician, songwriter, author, and all around renaissance man. Usually, he can be found traveling the country (in Reddit / Waywire tour buses), shaking hands, kissing babies, and making jokes about interpersonal relationships (It’s way cooler than I made it sound… trust me.)

Anyways, here is a one of his more serious videos that I needed to share.
YOU HAVE NO COMPETION (without further ado, here’s Mike below).

Why Zig Ziglar Matters (RIP 1926-2012)

I’m writing this on November 28 and I’m sad to say that a very inspiring and positive figure has passed away. Zig Ziglar passed away today at the age of 86. Many may not know of him, but for those who listened to him speak whether at conventions or on his many incredibly successful audiobooks, Zig Ziglar is, was and will likely be a for a long time – a legend. More than just a ‘motivational speaker’ (Ed. Am I the only one who hates that word), he created an empire that without a doubt positively affected millions to achieve their goals and become masters at what they do.
