How To Build Your Network (Part 2)

Surround yourself with talented people

Positive. Negative. Neutral. Creative and talented people are like magnets to one another. It is no random act that when you meet one very talented person, he/she will know many more. There is no better place to examine connections among creativity and online/offline interaction than college. During college, people with unique backgrounds and personal tastes connect in ways that multiply their power. Each college student has a multitude networks (both in real and virtual domains) – they have their old high school friends, they have family and other associates, and they have their new friends from college who also have a network of new and old connections. College, in its most basic form, is a web connected to another (and another and another repeating). This deep tissue like connectivity is what sparks tipping points.

It is your personal responsibility, as a Music Biz Wiz Kid, to seek out other talented and creative people whenever possible. It doesn’t matter what you do – imagination is the root after all- If you’re a musician, try talking with artists of other forms about their perspective on the craft. If you promote bands, talk to writers and learn more about what the other does. Taking this simple action will spark imagination/new perspectives and open up worlds of possibility to take new action in building the brand of You. Events, such as the ones mentioned above, are great, but they are limited to certain times as well as money/time expense. Everyday life offers infinite possibles to connect with likeminded people. Wherever you are – talented and creative people are out there. Use the law of attraction to your advantage – direct focused thought into attracting the people and professional/personal relationships you want in your life. If you think it, they will come.
